Formula Builder – An overview
Introduction
Business functions such as accounting and book keeping, costing etc. require computation of various entities. While most of these computations are fairly standardized on the basis of prevailing practices (such a GAAP for accounting), certain processes require that the end user be allowed to configure the computation logic, both in terms of the parameters which participate in the computation and the relationship between them. For example, a purchase order requires that the tax, charges, and discounts be calculated on a percentage basis of the basic value or the total value. Asset Intensive industries requires that the values of various attributes such as “Running Hours”, “Cycles” etc. of the operating assets be tracked for the purpose of usage based maintenance, reliability studies and replacement analysis. While some of these attributes (parameters) are independent others are dependent on certain other parameters.
The Formula Builder business component can be used to define the relationship between a reference parameter and one or more participating parameters. This business component can also be utilized by other business components to calculate the value of the reference parameter based on the pre-defined relationship
