Create Problem Code – A summary of the activity

A problem is an abnormal symptom that is noticed while operating equipment. This activity allows you to create problem codes for every problem that is expected to occur on equipment across the plant. For example, you can create problem codes for problems such as fuse blowout, bearing seizure or loss of machining accuracy. These problem codes are later referred to in the work orders, which are raised for solving the problems encountered on the equipment.

Problems can be standard or non-standard in nature. A standard problem is a problem that is expected to occur on the equipment which is defined in the system. You can define only standard problems in this activity. Failure analysis, which determines the criticality of the problem, can be done only on a standard problem. A non-standard problem is an unexpected problem encountered on the equipment which is usually not defined in the system and can be recorded while creating a work order.  .

The problem code tree, which shows the relationships between various problem codes that appear in equipment, can be defined in the trouble shooting guides. The task(s), which are to be performed to correct the problem also, can be defined along with this. You can attach trouble-shooting guides to the equipment, so that they can be referred to, whenever a problem is reported on the equipment.

You can create standard problem codes by providing a unique code and a description. The system sets the status of the problem codes as "Active".
