Hold Work Order – A summary of the activity
This activity allows you to hold work orders or the tasks that are specified for the work orders. Holding a work order implies stopping the execution of a work order due to reasons such as non-availability of resources or parts for the work order at the appropriate time. A work order can also be put on hold if the equipment on which the work order is raised is to be handed over to the production department due to an urgent requirement. When a work order that is in the “In-Progress” state is put on hold, the status of the work order changes to “Interrupted”. Once actual work is resumed on the work order and the actual cost incurred on the work order is entered, the work order status changes to “In-Progress”. The work order status also changes to “In-Progress” once the work order is re-initiated in the “Initiate Work Order” activity of the “Work Order Execution” business component.
You can also hold a work order on which work has not yet commenced. This could be due to various reasons such as non-availability of parts or resources for starting the work on the work order. Such work orders which are in the “Scheduled” status changes to “Deferred” status after it has been held in this activity. When work on a work order that is in the “Deferred” status is resumed or when the work order is re-initiated, the status of the work order changes to “In-Progress”.
You can also hold any task that is specified for the work order at any point in time. You can hold a task only when it is in the “Scheduled” or in the “In-Progress” status. In such cases only the specified task is held and the status of the task changes to “Deferred” if it is “Scheduled”, and “Interrupted” if it is “In-Progress”.
When a work order or a task is held, all the parts and the resources that have been reserved for the work order or task is unreserved. Also any purchase requests that have been raised for procuring parts for the execution of the task or work order are canceled. The system also records the change in status of the work order in the work order history.
