What you can do in this activity

Material  Planning (MP) is a set of techniques that is used for calculating the requirements for materials. This is done using the pending demands for items and the information about the stock that is available in the inventory. Material Planning makes recommendations to release orders for replenishment of material. It also recommends to reschedule work orders when due dates of material arrival and need dates of material requirements do not correlate.

Material Planning is done in the following manner:

Material Planning can be run for a work order or for a specific disposition item required for the work order. When an MP is run for a work order, the system will run the MP for all the items of the work order for which a demand has been posted in the inventory. If pegging was already done for the items, the system repegs the items when the MP is run. If the demand date of the item and the date of the scheduled receipt of the item do not match or if there are no schedule receipts or no stock for an Item, the system will suggest that a purchase request be raised for that item.

The system generates a new number every time the MP is run. The planner can use this for reference for any future review of the MP.
