Recording Serial Number for Inspection
This page is used to record serial numbers for inspection.
Select the “Specify Serial Number” link at the bottom of the “Create Inspection Request” page.
The “Serial Number for Inspection” page appears.
Note: This page is applicable only for serial controlled items.
The system displays the following from the previous page.
Request Number |
A unique code identifying the inspection request. |
Origin ID |
The application from where the inspection request is raised, which could be “Quality Management”, “Production”, “Sales”, “Purchase”, “Inventory” or “All”. |
Status |
The system displays any one of the following statuses. |

Item Code |
The code identifying the item for which the inspection request is raised. |
Variant |
The code identifying the variant of the item. |
Description |
The description of the inspection plan. |
Reference Document Type |
The type of reference document that is associated with the request may be any one of the following |

Reference Document Number |
The number identifying the reference document. |
Reference Line Number |
The number identifying the reference line. Example, if the “Reference Document Type” field is set to “Production”, then “Reference Line Number” will be “Production Order Line Number”. |
Lot Number |
The code identifying the item that is lot and serial controlled, for which the inspection request is raised. |
Inspection Quantity |
The quantity of the samples to be inspected. |
UOM |
The unit of measurement in which the quantity is measured. |
Number of samples |
The value indicating the number of samples that must be inspected |
Retention Samples |
The value indicating the number of samples retained for some specific reason. Example, if the sample size is 100 and if “10” is specified here, it implies that 10 items are retained for a specific reason, which could be inspected later. |
Quantity per Sample |
The quantity specifying the sample size. |
UOM |
The unit of measurement in which the quantity is measured |
Enter the following in the “Default Inspection” group box.
Serial Number From |
The starting serial number in the multiline for which the inspection will be done or not done depending on the selection in the “Inspection” drop-down list box (Alphanumeric, 20). This field may be left blank, if you decide to inspect or not inspect all the items in the multiline |
Increment To |
The number of serial numbers that must be incremented with the starting serial number (Integer). This field may be left blank, if you decide to inspect or not inspect all the items in the multiline |
Inspection |
Use the drop-down list box, select any one of the following options |

Click on the “Default” pushbutton.
The “For Inspection” drop-down list box in the multiline will display the value “Yes” or “No” depending on the option selected in the “Inspection” drop-down list box
The system displays the following in the multiline.
Serial Number |
The unique serial number of the serial controlled item(Alphanumeric, 20). The system displays all the serial numbers specified in Sales or Purchase or Inventory. |

The remarks pertaining to the inspection of the serial controlled items (Alphanumeric,255). |
To create samples
Note : Ensure that the number of samples in the header matches with the number of item serial numbers selected.
Click on the “Update Serial Number” pushbutton.
The system updates the status to “Active”.
The system displays the following below the multiline
Created By |
The name of the user who created the inspection request. |
Created Date |
The date on which the request was created. |
Modified By |
The name of the user who last modified the inspection request. |
Modified Date |
The date on which the request was last modified. |
