You can use this HR Set Up business component to maintain:

Department:

Departments are the functional units into which an organization is divided. After defining a department with attributes like a unique code, description etc., you can map the required competencies to the department.

Grade:

Grades are the various job layers in the organization. Employees having the similar compensation structure, Leave entitlement rules etc., can be grouped under the same grade. A group of grades makes a grade set. For example, if the grade set ‘Managers’ has grades M1 to M4, all managers attached to M1 enjoy the same pay scale, rate of increment and other benefits and privileges even if there exist differences in the compensation terms and conditions when compared to managers attached  to M2 or M3.

In addition, grade is the indicator of the place of the employee in the hierarchical structure of the organization.

Grade Set:

A grade set is a unit, by which the employees in an organization having similar responsibilities, pay structure, leave, facilities, benefits and other perquisites can be quantitatively classified. For example, all managers can be grouped into a grade set and assigned the same compensation, facilities.  Similarly, there can be separate grade sets for supervisors, executives, vice-presidents, clerical staff, trainees etc. The grade sets thus created, shape and condition the hierarchical structure of the organization . They facilitate the smooth functioning of the organization as the differences in the pay structure, privileges, benefits etc., among employees can be rationalized on the basis of the grade sets to which they belong.

Job:

Creating a job involves:

Position:

Every job is associated with a department. Position is a combination of a department and a job.

Depending upon the value of the parameter ‘Position Control ON/OFF’ for the Job selected for the Position there can be two scenarios for creating a position.

Position control ‘On’ Scenario: It is Position Control ON scenario if the Position control has been marked as ‘ON’ for the job selected for defining the Position. In this scenario you can create position control IDs for the position. The system verifies whether or not the position control feature is active , for the job specified for the position. The position control is set to active or otherwise, for different jobs in the organization based on need. If the position control is set to active for the job for which the position is created, you are to specify the number of posts required for the position. Based on this, the system generates a position ID for each post. For example, if the number of posts specified is six, the system generates six position IDs.

Position Control ‘Off’ Scenario: It is a Position Control OFF scenario if the Position Control has been marked as ‘OFF’ for the job selected for defining the Position. In such a scenario a combination of department and job results in a position and it is not possible to generate a Position ID series.

Moreover it is not possible to define further attributes for the position like the Regulatory Region, work Location, business unit, FTE etc. But the competencies and the qualifications required for the position can be mapped.

In the Position Control off scenario a Position will be available at that set of employment units which is commonly applicable to the department and job used for creating the position.
