Create Warehouse Information – A Summary of the Activity

Component overview

Pages inside the activity

This activity allows you to define a warehouse that can store a variety of items. Various types of receipts, issues and returns are possible on the items stored in a warehouse.

Each organizational unit has a number of storage units called “Warehouse” that enables you to define the item storage hierarchy. A warehouse can be divided into zones and these zones can be further divided into bins. Thus a warehouse is the highest level of storage and the bin is the lowest level of storage.

A unique number across organizational units identifies each warehouse that is controlled by a “Supervisor”, who is responsible for all the transactions that take place in the warehouse. You can configure a warehouse as “Nettable”, which means the items stored in the warehouse can be considered for MRP run. For example, a warehouse that stores items meant for research and development, and destructive testing can be maintained in a non-nettable warehouse and these items will not be taken into account for production. A warehouse can be configured as “Capital Warehouse”, if all items stored in the warehouse can be capitalized. For example, pumps.

The storage type of a warehouse can be a “Free” if items are to be stored in bulk quantities. Alternately, storage type can be  “Normal”, where the warehouse can be divided into zones and bins for storing a variety of items. Similarly, a zone can also be a “Normal” or a “Free” zone. This type of storage concept helps in the traceability of items, as rules pertaining to the zones and bins can be specified. For example, storage of chemicals, hazardous and explosive items.
