Reserve Parts – A summary of the activity
This activity allows you to reserve spare parts for the work order. You can reserve standard as well as non-standard spare parts for the work order. Standard spare parts can be a disposition item or a min-max or reorder level item. A disposition item is an item for which only a minimum quantity of the item is maintained in the inventory. A min-max or re-order level item is an item which is always available in the inventory. Reservation of items is done only for a disposition item.
Whenever the user attempts to reserve an item, a demand will get generated for that item. This demand will be posted in ”Inventory Planning” business component of Ramco Corporate Solutions as a requirement for the item. This is referred to as soft reservation.
For every demand that is posted, the system will try to peg it to an available stock or will try to peg it to a scheduled receipt (Purchase Request or a Purchase Order). If that does not happen, the system will consider the demand as a problem demand and the scheduled quantity as the problem quantity. When an MRP is run, the system will peg it to a new scheduled receipt or a purchase request will be raised for that Item. This is referred to as soft pegging.
In the case of soft pegging the reservation of spare parts will keep changing based on any requirements. If there is an urgent requirement for spare parts for an earlier date, the pegging will be removed and the new requirement will be fulfilled first. In this situation, the pegging can get changed at any given moment to fulfill a new requirement. To avoid this, the hard pegging facility is provided. The planner can post a demand as a hard pegged demand. Once the item has been pegged, the pegged link will continue without being disturbed whenever any new requirement arises.
Refer to the example for more details on pegging.
You can also unreserve the items that have already been allocated to the work order in this activity.
