Schedule Work Order – A summary of the activity
In this activity, you can schedule work orders based on the availability of resources. A work order must be scheduled before its execution. Scheduling of work orders is done taking into consideration the availability of spare parts and resources to execute the work order, the feedback from production on equipment availability and the priority of the work order.
You can schedule a work order by specifying the start dates and the completion dates for the work order and also by specifying the work group that would be responsible for carrying out the work order.
A work order can be scheduled by “Work order” or it can be scheduled by “Task”. You can schedule a work order by “Work order”, by specifying the start and the completion dates and time of the work order. You can schedule a work order by “Task”, by specifying the start and the completion dates and time for each of the task that is to be carried out in the work order.
You can schedule a work order that is the “Fresh” or in the “Approved” status. When the work order is created in the “Work Order” business component, the employee who has created it may or may not have specified the schedule start date and end date of the work order. If the creator has specified the dates, the planner will plan the execution of the work order based on the availability of resources. If the creator has not specified the dates, the planner will decide the dates and schedule the work order depending on the priority of the work order and availability of resources. The system records the details of scheduling as the work order scheduling history.
The following diagram depicts the various actions that can be performed on a work order during scheduling the respective statuses of the work order.
Figure 1. Graphical representation of work order scheduling
When a work order that is in the “Fresh” or “Approved” status is scheduled, the status of the work order changes to “Scheduled”. If the work on the work order could not be started, the work order status changes to “Deferred”. Once the work on the work order has started, the work order status changes to “In-progress”. If the work on a work order that is in the “In-Progress” status is stopped, the status of the work order changes to “Interrupted”.
A work order that is already scheduled can be rescheduled in this activity. You can reschedule a work order that is in the “In-progress” state or in the “Interrupted” state. In both these cases, the status of the work order remains as it was before rescheduling. When the work order that is in the “Interrupted” status is re-initiated or when the actual cost incurred on the work order is recorded, the status of the work order changes to “In-progress”. A work order that is in the “Deferred” state can also be rescheduled in this activity. A new start date and a completion date are specified for the work order and the status of the work order changes to “Scheduled”.
