Create Equipment – A summary of the activity
The “Create Equipment” activity allows you to define equipment along with all the necessary details that are required for carrying out maintenance activities. The equipment is any asset owned by the organization, which needs maintenance. It is an identifiable unit of an organization on which maintenance is carried out. It could be any physical asset of the organization. For example, machines, vehicles and buildings can be identified as equipment in an organization.
You can create the equipment with a unique code and a description in the “Create Equipment” page, and identify all the other details that are relevant for carrying out the maintenance activities on the equipment.

What you can do in this activity
Record all the relevant details for carrying out maintenance activities on the equipment
Specify the purchase and manufacturing details of the equipment
Specify placeholders for the equipment
Specify parameters for the equipment
Attach inspection points to the equipment – parameter combination
Specify trouble shooting guides for the equipment
Specify spare parts and attach a spare structure to the equipment
Define equipment dependency relationship of equipment
Record all the relevant details for carrying out maintenance activities on the equipment
You can create the equipment and record all other details pertaining to the equipment. You can define the type and the asset tag of the equipment and the equipment hierarchy, for automatic cost roll up and inheritance of parameter values.
Use the “Create Equipment” page, to specify all the details pertaining to equipment maintenance.
Specify the purchase and manufacturing details of the equipment
Record the details such as the equipment manufacturer and the serial number of the manufacturer. Also, details like the warranty period and the equipment life can be specified.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Go to “Additional Equipment Details” page to specify manufacturing and purchase details for the equipment.
Specify placeholders for the equipment
You can identify the placeholders on the equipment for attaching rotables. A rotable is the equipment that moves from equipment to another, during its active life cycle. A rotable is attached to the equipment through a placeholder. A placeholder refers to a specific area or location on the equipment, which can serve as a “seat” for the rotable equipment. For example, if there are two motors to drive the equipment, ‘Drive1’ and ‘Drive2’ could be the placeholders to which rotables such as “Motors” can be attached. A placeholder is used to track the movement of a rotable within the equipment, or between equipment.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Go to “Equipment PlaceHolder Details” page, to identify the placeholders on the equipment.
Specify parameters for the equipment
Parameters are used to monitor the condition of equipment.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Go to “Equipment Parameter” page to specify parameters for the equipment.
Attach inspection points to the equipment – parameter combination
An inspection point is the physical point on the equipment, where the performance of the equipment is monitored with the help of parameters. The equipment can have more than one inspection point on which more than one parameter value can be measured. Inspection points are defined for the equipment – parameter combination.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Use the “Equipment Parameter” page, to define the equipment parameters. Select the parameter for which inspection points must be defined.
Use the “Inspection Points” page to attach inspection points to the equipment – parameter combination.
Specify trouble shooting guides for the equipment
A trouble shooting guide consists of a list of problems that are commonly reported in the equipment and the corrective action to be taken for solving such problems. The trouble shooting guide attached to the equipment can be referred to, whenever a problem or failure is reported in the equipment.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Go to “Equipment TSG” page to specify trouble shooting guides for the equipment.
Specify spare parts and attach a spare structure to the equipment
Record the spare parts of the equipment.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Go to the “Spare Parts” page to record the details of the spare parts of the equipment.
You can attach a spare structure to the equipment. A spare structure is a hierarchy of spares that have been defined in the “Define Spare Structure Hierarchy” activity. A spare structure is attached to the equipment in this activity.
Use the “Spare Structure” page, to view the hierarchy of spare structure and the spares that belong to the spare structure.
Define equipment dependency relationship of equipment
You can record the relationship of the equipment with other equipment. This relationship is termed as “Also Down” relationship, which lists the other related equipment that would automatically shut down, in the case of an equipment breakdown.
Define the equipment in the “Create Equipment” page.
Use the “Also Down Equipment” page, to record the equipment dependency relationship.
